There are still a few months until the release of the iPhone 13, but the first rumors are already circulating about its successor. An Apple expert now reports that the manufacturer is planning some exciting innovations in the cameras for models for 2022, which could usher in a new era for smartphones.
The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has proven to be a mostly reliable source of planned innovations for new devices when it comes to questions about Apple and their iPhones in the past year. The expert recently commented on possible adjustments for the iPhone 14, as MacTechNews reported .
As a result, Apple will equip its iPhones, at least in the more powerful models, with a 48-megapixel camera that supports a completely new type of lens system in 2022 or a year later at the latest. In all probability, the analyst is referring to the new types of periscope cameras that have been wandering the rumor mills for some time. Kuo predicts that the new setup could take photography with iPhones to a whole new level. For this year's iPhone 13 series, however, he considers these innovations to be unlikely.
A lot should also happen when recording videos: iPhones should be able to film videos in 8K resolution from next year.
According to Kuo, the reason for upgrading the camera area is not photography or filming. Apple is much more concerned with making iPhones fit for augmented and virtual reality. Strong resolutions of 8K or even 16K are particularly important here in order to be able to optimally combine the real and the artificial world.
iPhones 2022: Which models is Apple planning?
Apple apparently wants to equip its iPhones with a particularly powerful camera setup from 2022.
Kuo also states that Apple plans to bring a total of four models onto the market next year. Compared to the current iPhone series , however, the 5.4-inch model iPhone mini is to be deleted, which is hardly surprising in view of the weak sales figures for the smaller iPhone .
Instead, Apple apparently plans to present two high-end models with 6.7-inch displays and two cheaper models with 6.1-inch displays. In principle, it would be possible for the mini versions to be completely replaced by the more popular iPhone SE models in the future.
Another exciting innovation announced by Kuo concerns the unlocking mechanisms of the iPhones 2022: For example, the sensor for face recognition Face ID and for the fingerprint sensor Touch ID are to be installed behind the display in the future - the black recess at the top, which many users do not like The screen border could therefore be omitted. However, Kuo predicts that it will not work without a recess, at least before the year 2023: At least for Face ID, at least a small hole would have to be accommodated in the display for the time being.
