Facebook is reducing the length of the event and wants to go back to the roots of the F8 developer conference. After an edition canceled in 2020, the annual F8 developer conference returns this year in a virtual format renamed "F8 Refresh". The stage will be open to developers from around the world and streamed live on the For Developers Facebook page .
Facebook announced that the event is scheduled for the day of June 2. Last year, our community of developers enabled companies of all sizes to grow their businesses, adapt to a changing world and accelerate their digital transformation. To pay tribute to them, we want to go back to the roots of F8: an event that honors developers, inspires them, and contributes to the growth of their activity, ”the company said in a press release. Last year, the F8 conference was canceled due to the pandemic. It had been replaced by small local events, as well as online videos and live streaming.

Mark Zuckerberg absence

In this new edition in the picked-up format, Facebook will present the latest development tools available. Detailed technical sessions, as well as demonstrations, will be organized for the occasion. While waiting for the full program, a dedicated page is already available to be kept informed of the opening of registrations and to receive information about the event.
However, according to TechCrunch, CEO Mark Zuckerberg will not be giving an opening speech this year. Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, vice-president in charge of the platform's partnerships, will take over. If the F8 conference has grown over the years, generally attracting around 5,000 people in physics, it seems that the social network is working for a more modest strategy in 2021, in a health context that is still restrictive for large gatherings.
